Post Game: Memphis Grizzlies vs Toronto Raptors

Zach Randolph killed us early and then Rudy Gay finished it in the end.

The Raptors got off to an awful start, trailer 13-0 in the early goings, down 16 at one point in the first quarter. Eventually, they tied it up and had a 5 point lead with less than 1 minute to go. The game was theirs right?

Not really, a mixed up caused Mayo to hit a open 3 and then Randolph tied it to send it to OT.

And then…the Grizzlies ran the same play with Conley and Gay playing screen and roll. Triano decides to switch on everything so Calderon ends up guarding Gay who’s 6-9 while Jose is 6-3. Instant mismatch there.

I usually hate switches, it will work for some teams like Atlanta because they have good athletes in most positions. But here, you can’t ask Jose to guard Gay, and expect to come out fine. Lots of people in my section blame Jose for this, but this is really a coaching decision, they want to switch to prevent Conley turning the corner on Jose.

The Raptors lose the game not because of the switches in overtime, but other stuff like the our 53 million dollar man went missing again. Mr 4th quarter has 0 points in the 4th quarter, just awesome.

Keys to the loss:

- Slow start. I warned them, you played with fire, you get burn. There you go. Can’t have 13-0 run against to start the game.

- No production from the starting backcourt + Turk. DeRozan did try, but Jack + Turk were horrible tonight. Jack was having a lot of issues running the point recently. And Hedo looked like he’s filming another pizza pizza commercial.

Well, I am going to bed, tired and disappointed. Hopefully, they can learn from this. I think they were a little too casual with the beginning and late in the game when they had a lead. They do need someone to kick their butt once in a while.

29-24
